The Crisis

Today’s opioid crisis impacts every person and component of the U.S. health system. The complexity of this problem requires clinical, policy, educational, behavioral, and legal interventions. It also requires that these interventions be made carefully and intentionally coordinated with one another.
With a vision to achieve systems-wide impact, the Addiction and Pain Management Summit brings together diverse, multi-sector leaders and stakeholders to pursue a statewide, coordinated approach to address the overlapping issues of pain and addiction in Texas.

None of us can solve this problem alone. Rather, we believe systems-level change and collaboration will amplify state-level impact in enhancing treatment of acute and chronic pain and preventing opioid-related harm. As part of the state’s Texas Targeted Opioid Response (TTOR) initiative, the Summit is the only convening supported by TTOR funds with a substantial emphasis on pain management.

Building upon the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ (HHS) 5-point strategy to address the addiction crisis, the summit seeks to expand knowledge, build capacity, and drive collaboration.
